What is it?

An amputation is when part, or all, of a limb is removed whether due to trauma, illness or surgery.

How can it affect me?

An amputation is a major change in one’s life and abilities and the impact can vary depending on the type and extent of the amputation. If the amputation is to the arm, then it could mean difficulty with daily tasks, work, self-care, etc. If the amputation is to the leg, then it could mean difficulty with walking, standing, balance, working, daily tasks, etc. All amputations can impact independence and ability to continue one’s life as before.
